Synopsis
Jeffrey, Annie, and their three kids—Sophie, Noah, and Caleb—can’t believe their good fortune when they snatch up the bargain of a lifetime, an old mansion at the edge of town. To make it even better the town agrees to give them a substantial grant if they’d renovate the historic building back to its original condition.
The house is rundown, so no one thinks twice about the strange noises they hear in the walls and attic. Until, that is, they go into the living room to find all the furniture has been turned upside down. Then Sophie walks in her sleep and is taken over by a spirit. The final straw is when Jeffrey gets mysteriously scratched in the night.
Annie does research and discovers the family that had lived there before disappeared without a trace. Annie and Jeffrey decide to call in paranormal investigators.
The kids are shipped off to a neighbor’s house and Paranormal Rescue, a ghost hunting group led by self-centered Benjy who is determined to become a star, swoops in and takes over, filming all the while. They are less than professional, and it is only when everything goes haywire that Benjy admits they need to call in a psychic.
Unfortunately, the only psychic Benjy knows is an ex-girlfriend. And since he broke her heart, she sends her high-powered twin sister in her place.
Benjy hates the twin sister, and the twin sister hates him. But they put aside their differences to help Jeffery, Annie, and their three kids out of their spooky situation.
The twin sister, Ursula, is a psychic. But she’s never used her psychic abilities to get rid of ghosts, so she relies on a combination of tutoring she received from her sister and various internet searches she’s done through the years. With this patchy knowledge she banishes a demon from the basement, ghost parents from the upstairs, and ghost children from the main floor. As soon as the ghosts are vanquished, all is quiet.
Jeffrey, Annie, and the three children return home and get the rundown from Benjy. He explains all they’ve done and lets them view the footage he’s taken. They shiver when they hear that the ghosts’ last words are ‘protect’ and ‘others’.
Paranormal Rescue leaves, and family life returns to normal.
Until darkness falls. After the family goes to sleep, a door in the basement rattles, then slowly opens. Strange creatures look out. Dark creatures, human-like, but not human. The creatures flood through the door and up the basement steps. Disturbances and screams in the distance, then darkness.
That time has passed is obvious by the overgrown yard and peeling paint on the house. There is movement in the front yard. Then just like a flower, a sign grows up in the middle of the yard. A sign that reads FOR SALE.
