Synopsis
Hetty roasts marshmallows in the backyard with friends. They can’t see they have guests, near-invisible, hungry, and fun-loving visitors from outer space, the Jupiterians.
At school Mr. Brannon takes over from the normal science teacher. Unfortunately, Mr. Brannon doesn’t care about the kids, he’s looking for a way to push his career forward. He sets up a science fair.
Hetty is distracted by a cold and neglects to rein back her smartness. She invents the SPR, a machine that creates food out of nothing. She fails to notice the Jupiterians as they play around her room.
Mr. Brannon decides Hetty’s project will propel his career, maybe all the way to the Whitehouse. He alerts the press.
The whole world watches as the SPR fails at the Science Fair. Back home Hetty retries the machine and it works just fine.
The next morning Hetty finds her room full of stuff generated by the machine. She invites her friends over, and one of them eats candy created by the machine.
That’s when they discover the working of the machine are now covered in a strange, purple goo.
Soon items made by the machine begin to explode, and Hetty calls on her parents to help. Together they contain the goo before it creates a nuclear explosion.
But there is worse to come. Sheila, Hetty’s friend who ate the candy, is seriously ill. Sheila’s parents are called and it is discovered that this whole mess was created by the Jupiterians. No one knows how to communicate with the Jupiterians.
Hetty invents a way to communicate and the Jupiterians ‘fix’ Sheila. Everything goes back to normal except the next time there’s a backyard cookout, whole families join in the fun.
