I’m adapting my Treasure Trove screenplay into a novel. Here’s a short example of how that looks.
FADE IN:
INT. DOCTOR’S OFFICE – DAY
AUDREY, 20s, a smart college girl who has lost her confidence, slowly closes a door to the EXAM ROOM. She leans her head against the door.
AUDREY
(whispers)
I can do this.
SLAM.
Audrey’s eyes crossed as they were drawn to a suspicious smear of dirt a mere inch from her nose. The smear was on the door of the exam room, which was also a mere inch from her face.
Had she become invisible? Surely the doctor hadn’t meant to slam the door in her face.
After a slight pause, barely long enough for the echo of the SLAM to fade away, she shifted slightly to the left so she could relax her head against the door’s cool surface.
“I can do this,” she whispered.
This was a lie and she knew it, but she said it anyway.
It’ll be interesting to see how this develops!
